GET INVOLVED

Learn how to install a raingarden, native garden, or native shoreline planting on your property, and recieve a $250 grant and technical assistance. Homeowners attend an introduction presentation, followed by design course in which they can design and plan out their own raingarden, shoreline planting or native planting project. Offered in partnership with the Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Storm drains flow directly to local lakes, rivers, and wetlands, acting as a conduit for trash and pollutants. Adopt a Drain asks residents to adopt a storm drain in their neighborhood and keep it clear of leaves, trash, and other debris to reduce water pollution. This program is implemented in partnership with Clean Water MN.

Help us monitors the water quality of our lakes and streams. This involves visiting a lake 7 times during the summer to collect water samples, take measurements and observations, and check lake clarity with a secchi disk. Training is provided and no experience is needed. Contact the LMRWMO Administrator to learn more.

When you stencil storm drains, you help prevent pollution in our lakes and rivers. Eventually, all water within the Lower Mississippi River Watershed flows to the Mississippi River.  Storm drain stenciling makes a difference to our community and to everyone who lives downstream! Contact the LMRWMO Administrator to learn more.

Planting for Clean Water program makes it easy for residents interested in doing their part to protect water quality to plan, purchase and plant native gardens, raingardens and shorelines with native plants.

This is an outreach program provided by Metro Watershed Partners, a coalition of over 40 public, private, and non-profit organizations in the Twin Cities Metro area that, through collaborative outreach materials, educates citizens about how to care for local water resources.

The State of the River Report was developed by the National Park Service and the Friends of the Mississippi River. This document assembles and analyzes a wealth of data, and communicates how the river is doing. The State of the River Report describes 13 indicators that illustrate the condition of the river.

Interested in being a local leader for clean water? This program allows residents to learn more about water resources management and help their community continuing their own education on water issues to teach others the same.
