History

A joint powers agreement was executed on October 25, 1985, which established and empowered the Lower Mississippi River Watershed Management Organization (LMRWMO). The LMRWMO was formed in response to the requirements of the Metropolitan Surface Water Management Act. The Act required, among other things, the preparation of watershed management plans in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan area.

The LMRWMO implements projects and programs to improve the water quality of the water resources within our boundary. It also provides a valuable forum for the member cities to evaluate and resolve drainage issues within the watershed.

The LMRWMO does not have a permitting program, all issuance of water resources or stormwater management permits is handled through the member City in which a project is located.
